Our 2026 Calendar is in production and will be available in time for our October Long Weekend Community Market in Hill End on Saturday 4 October. 2025.

This time we are showcasing all the wonderful animal and bird life of the district, starting with the many portrayals of pets in the Holtermann Photo Collection. When the miners brought their families to Hill End, they also brought their pets along too. We have included images of dogs, cats, horses, birds, etc. that have been captured by Merlin and his associates at the American & Australasian Photographic Co. during their time in Hill End and Tambaroora in the early 1870s.

Today, Hill End is an animal loving village, and pets are still common around the village. Even the National Parks & Wildlife Service campgrounds allow dogs on a lead. Many “wild” birds fly freely here, and some are tame enough to eat from your hand.

This calendar is chock full of these four legged friends and winged wonders. With modern day photographic contributions from community members and visitors mixed with a good smattering of Holtermann Collection images it is a great example of local diversity of the non-human kind.

We have managed to keep the price at the same cost again this year and we encourage you to grab some copies as Christmas presents for the family members “who have everything”. This gift will give pleasure throughout the year. What better souvenir to take home with you that will last you not 12 , but 13 months into January 2027!

Pre Order now and your copies will be available and posted out after 10 October for $20 (plus $5 p&p.) Order via our website “Shop” page or purchase your copies from the Family History Centre at Holtermann’s Corner in Hill End on a weekend or the General Store on Tuesday – Sunday.
