Occupations

In our work we have come across numerous lists of occupations. Some of the more prominent ones have been Publicans and hotels, Nuns, and Medical Practitioners. If your ancestor was amongst these groups, then you may find them here.

There is also a listing by name of resident and their occupations on the Hill End Family History website.

Publicans and Hotels

This listing, covering the Hill End, Tambaroora and nearby localities, has been taken from material extracted from the Publicans Licenses at State Records and the Government Gazettes. Further information can be obtained from the State Records Guide and Index to these Licenses

The 2 lists have been arranged by the Licensee’s surname and by the name of the establishment and then chronologically.

Nuns

If your family tree contains nuns, then you may find further information on their lives on the Nuns database.

Medical Practitioners and Nurses

The Australian Medical Pioneers Index provides biographical data on over 4500 doctors who lived in Australia or visited Australian shores in a medical capacity in colonial days. A number of Hill End district doctors are included.

Others

As further lists are compiled they will be added to the website.
